2010 Sidewalk Tango

View Body of Work

Sidewalk Tango is a public art commission in Toronto, Canada, that addresses the richness and cultural diversity of the St. Clair W. street life.  As St. Clair stretches westward from Yonge St. the ambience and flavour of the street is experienced by the pedestrian through the activities of the small shops and businesses, as they spill onto the street, offering a cacophony of colours, smells and tactile experiences:  baskets of fruits and vegetable, displays of shoes and clothing, pots overflowing with flowering plants, paraphernalia of hardware and household supplies. It is this microcosm of street life that gives St. Clair West its identity, making it distinct and unique within the larger context of the urbanity of Toronto, and offers the pedestrian an intimate scale of dimension and personal interaction in the activities of the street.
